ABOUT US

Learn all about our mission, our history, and our supporters.

Attitudes & Attire® is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting personal growth for women seeking self-sufficiency. Our program provides the tools that raise self-esteem, promote ethics and build the confidence necessary to develop successful life skills. Our vision is to build confidence and change lives of the women we serve.

Founded by Lyn Berman in 1996, Attitudes & Attire® addresses areas not traditionally covered in workplace training including raising self-esteem and providing work-appropriate attire. We offer three programs:

Our Core Program (job readiness and self-esteem) consists of three workshops designed for women to recognize their self-worth, create a positive image and improve job-search skills. Upon completion of the workshops, each participant is invited to select workplace appropriate clothing from our beautiful boutique stocked primarily with donations from the community.

Hopeful Smiles™, founded in 2006, is a partnership with area dentists to restore the oral appearance of women whose teeth and gums have been damaged by poverty, substance abuse, neglect, etc.

Introduced in 2012, Boots to Heels® assists women in the military community with the transition from military to civilian life by focusing on job readiness.

In 2019 as an extension of our Core Program, we developed a Spanish-speaking program for women to express themselves in their native language. The purpose of this program is to empower Latina women to reach their full potential in both her personal and professional life.

Since the agency’s inception, more than 28,000 women have acquired tools to build the confidence they need to succeed.

A HISTORY OF

ATTITUDES & ATTIRE®

1996

ATTITUDES & ATTIRE® IS FOUNDED

Founded by Lyn Berman in 1996, the idea for Attitudes & Attire® was simple — build the self-esteem of women entering the workforce and provide professional interview attire. As the success of the Attitudes & Attire® agency became recognized, more and more social service agencies began referring clients. Over the years, Lyn steadily grew the organization with the support of countless volunteers, donors, and sponsors.

2006

HOPEFUL SMILES™ IS LAUNCHED

In 2006, we recognized our clients would benefit from restorative dental care. With a core group of dedicated dental professionals leading the charge, other dentists were recruited and the program has transformed the smiles of deserving women ever since.

2012

BOOTS TO HEELS® IS BORN

In 2012, we noticed an influx of our clients mentioning their military service. Recognizing they had unique needs, the conversation was started about having a confidence building and self-esteem workshop specifically for military women. After much research, we discovered no other agencies in our area were targeting this specific population – women veterans – thus Boots to Heels® was born. The demand for the program far exceeded our expectations.

2016

20TH ANNIVERSARY

2016 marked a very special milestone for Attitudes & Attire® — the 20th anniversary of the agency. As we reflect back to previous years, we have the opportunity to see how much we have grown.

2017

BOOTS TO HEELS® EXPANDS

In 2017, we had the foresight to identify another population that could benefit from Boots to Heels® – spouses. As a result, we expanded our program to include female spouses of those who serve/served in the military.

TODAY

WE ARE STRONGER THAN EVER

Things are full speed ahead. We continue to host our annual fundraiser luncheon and fashion show where we honor outstanding members of the community and feature first hand success stories. All of our programs are thriving and we look forward to many more years of making a difference. We hope you will join us on this journey.
