Founded by Lyn Berman in 1996, the idea for Attitudes & Attire™ was simple—to build the self-esteem of women entering the workforce and to provide professional interview attire. With great determination and a driving passion, Lyn founded Attitudes & Attire with $500 of her own money and one volunteer, advising 65 women in the first year. As the success of the Attitudes & Attire approach became recognized, more and more social service agencies began referring clients. Over the years, Lyn steadily grew the organization with the support of countless volunteers, donors, and sponsors.
Our Best Foot Forward program came to fruition in 2005, with the generous involvement of Suzanne Collins and CareerLink Companies. The program allows Attitudes & Attire to purchase new professional footwear for clients. Through public contributions and community support, our Best Foot Forward fund continues to help provide new, business casual shoes for thousands of clients.
In 2006, the seeds for the Hopeful Smiles program were sown. At a meeting with Mary Swift, D.D.S., P.A., a community-minded dentist and owner of Dallas Laser Dentistry, Lyn shared her hopes for a program that would help repair the smiles of the agency’s clients. Swift and her associate, Dr. Melisa Christian, enthusiastically signed on and urged colleagues to donate their services.
Our Hopeful Smiles program was officially launched in 2007. With a core group of dedicated dental professionals leading the charge, other dentists were added to the roster and the program has been transforming the smiles of deserving women ever since.
We continue to host our annual fundraiser luncheon and fashion show where we honor outstanding members of the community, recognize outstanding volunteers, and feature first hand success stories of some of our clients.
2011 marked our 15th year of promoting personal growth for women seeking self-sufficiency. We look forward to many more years of making a difference we and hope that you will join us on this journey.
